Substance Abuse and Recovery | Help and Support

Substance abuse can affect anyone. It can affect your health, your family, and your daily life. It can also make stress and hard feelings worse.

Some people use drugs or alcohol to cope with pain. Others use them to deal with stress, fear, grief, or trauma. At first, it may seem to help. Over time, though, substance use can cause new problems.

Help is available. Recovery is possible.

You do not have to face this alone.

Signs You May Need Help

It is not always easy to know when substance use has become a problem. However, there are signs you can watch for.

You may use more than you planned. You may try to stop but find it hard. & You may also hide your use from people you love.

Substance use may begin to affect work, school, sleep, money, or relationships. You may also stop doing things you once enjoyed.

If this happens, it may be time to ask for help.

Take One Step at a Time

Recovery does not happen all at once. Instead, it happens one step at a time.

Start by talking to someone you trust. You can also talk to a doctor, counselor, or support group.

Healthy habits can help too. Get enough sleep. Eat regular meals. Move your body. Spend time with people who support you. In addition, find safe ways to deal with stress.

Most of all, be patient with yourself.

A hard day does not mean you have failed. You can start again.
