Social Media & Mental Health

Social media can be fun. It can help teens learn, connect, and share ideas. However, too much time online can also affect how you feel.

It is easy to compare yourself to others. Posts may make life look perfect. Yet, they rarely show the whole story. This can lead to stress, worry, or low self-esteem.

Your online habits matter.

Start by taking regular breaks. Follow people who make you feel good. Mute or unfollow content that brings you down. Also, put your phone away before bed. This can give your mind time to rest.

Most importantly, notice how social media makes you feel. If you feel worse after scrolling, step away for a while. Spend time with friends or family. Go outside. Listen to music. Read, create, or do something you enjoy.

You can also talk to someone you trust. A parent, teacher, counselor, or another trusted adult can help.

The LCH-Echo app offers more tools for teen mental wellness. It includes coping tools, guided support, journaling, and resources for hard days.

Social media should be a tool, not a trap. Protect your peace. Be real. Be kind. Be you.
